Rishiri Ramen Miraku was founded in 2007 on remote Rishiri Island by Esashika Mitsugi, a former government construction engineer who fell in love with the island. The idea came from his wife Yuko, whose homemade ramen was legendary. The signature 'Yakishoyu Ramen' is built on premium Rishiri kombu dashi, made possible because relatives are kombu fishermen. Rishiri kombu, known as the 'king of kombu,' is sun-dried using a rare traditional method. Often called 'Japan's most difficult-to-reach ramen shop,' Miraku has expanded to the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum and even Boston, USA.
